THE AGE OLD METHOD OF WELL/POND WATER TREATMENT IS STILL THE MOST COMMONLY USED METHOD OF TREATING WATER FOR INDIVIDUAL HOMES .
IT REMOVES TURBIDITY OF WATER , IRON AND MANGANESE FROM WATER, DISINFECTS WATER .
The Steps Of Treatment Are As Follows:
1) Add lime to make the pH value of water 8 to 9 .
2) Add Aluminium Sulphate commonly known as Alum @ 5 mg per liter of water to be treated.
3)Add Potassium permanganate @ 1 mg per liter of water to be treated. After the addition of permanganate , the colour of water should become light pink .
4) The contact period of chemical reaction is 6 hours. That means water is to be held in the tank for six hours . After the detention period of six hours, the top water(Supernatent) can be used for daily use. The sludge settled at the bottom of the tank should be regularly removed.
