GREEN SHIELD----How to raise FUNDS for NGO

==============================================
AN NGO SUSTAINS ON FUNDS. THE PROBLEM IS HOW TO RAISE FUNDS. This is the biggest hurdle any NGO faces.

===============================================

"It is shameful to go and ask people for money for NGO projects. We might ask once or twice. How can we ask on a regular basis?"

encourage intermediary agencies to start work on Indian fundraising rather than ask NGOs to do their own fundraising

In India its unfortunate, that several useless agents are giving false promises that they can raise funds on behalf of NGO towards their projects or for their organization fund. Even NGOs are believing them that such fundraising local agents shall bring more funds to their organization. But its not true. Some unemployed peoples are joining together and forming a gang and wasting their own time and the organization's time. Those agents will not tell the real picture of those source of funds and you will not even see the donor in your eyes up to the escape of such useless agents. Please do not pay any advance fee to such agent where you will loose it. Do not get cheated by going behind these NGO Agents.
But some NGO Consultancy in important cities are helping for Macro Fundraising which such programs are suggested by Social Welfare ministry of India. The role of Consultancy is just documentation and project preparations to submit it to the macro fund resources like Reputed foundations. Here the knowledge about Grant making foundation and the knowledge about update announcements and notifications of Indian Government aids towards better and bigger projects is required for such NGO consultancies. So choosing such NGO Consultancy by an NGO may lead to reach the GOAL only under the testimonials of such NGO consultancy.
Some private foundations which can help with Macro fundraising for NGOs:
1. Ford Foundation : http://www.fordfoundation.org/
2. Unniti Foundation: http://unnitifoundation.org/about.htm
3. OAK Foundation: http://www.oakfnd.org/india
4. Indian Foundation for Arts: http://www.indiaifa.org/programmes/special-grants.html
5. Anandana of Coco Cola: http://www.anandana.org/
6. MacArthur Foundation: http://www.macfound.org/tags/india/
7. The Asia Foundation:http://asiafoundation.org/country/overview/india

Introduction:Indian NGOs fall into two broad categories - the "Government-funded" NGOs and the "Multinational NGOs" which receive their funds from foreign sources.
Anil Singh of VANI (Voluntary Action Network India) has been quoted in a hard-hitting article titled, "Most of the Funds they get never reach the Poor" [ Prasannan R., in THE WEEK: Sept. 15, 1996, page 31] as saying that the Government Agency responsible for NGO funding, CAPART is corrupt and charges commissions ranging from 10-40% in return for sanctioning projects. If CAPART has sanctioned about Rs.330 crore to about 7,500 NGOs in the last nine years (in addition to grants from other ministries), we can imagine the number of bogus organisations and front organisations which have mushroomed to siphon off this easy money in the name of rural development.FUND GENERATION
Money from the rent of factors of production is classified in this category.
It would include income from land (agricultural and dairy farms seem to be a particular favourite with NGOs, especially those with a rural orientation) and assets like buildings and facilities.
Income from consultancy or training and workshop fees would also fall into this category.
Interest on funds deposited in banks or return on investment from business enterprises is yet another example of fund generation.
FUND RAISING
This is a distinct category, where the NGO appeals to the public and persuades individuals and groups to support it's cause. By far the most difficult of the three methods, it also raises many ideological problems, which could actually be surrogate counter-arguments to involvement with an unfamiliar and intimidating approach which calls for new skills and attitudes.

By far the most difficult of the three methods, it also raises many ideological problems, which could actually be surrogate counter-arguments to involvement with an unfamiliar and intimidating approach which calls for new skills and attitudes. However, there are a handful of NGOs some of them very small, which have been able to see the writing on the wall. They have started raising modest amounts of money and involving the public in their work.NGOs have the problem of attracting suitably trained and motivated staff for fundraising. Once selected, these staff have to be able to fit in with the ethos of the organisation and it's key staff. Part-time fundraising staff appears to be one of the solutions to this problem.those NGOs with fundraising skills will not only survive the crisis, but emerge as strong organisations which can implement their agendas with no fear of government reprisal. Many NGOs have begun their own fundraising programmes in India and there is general awareness that fundraising must become an integral part of an NGO's business activities. It is recognised that fundraising is no easy task, and requires not only expertise, but some venture capital to establish as a going concern. An Organisational Solution:We have been suggesting to some of our concerned NGO friends and donor friends that the way forward might be to encourage intermediary agencies to start work on Indian fundraising rather than ask NGOs to do their own fundraising. This approach recognises the specialisation of the fundraising activity and the likely internal conflicts and contradictions that can arise within an NGO.

Low cost Arsenic Fluoride Filter

LOW COST ARSENIC & FLUORIDE FILTER
INTRODUCTION:
What are the possible health effects of arsenic in drinking water?
According to a 1999 study by the National Academy of Sciences, arsenic in drinking water causes bladder, lung and skin cancer, and may cause kidney and liver cancer. The study also found that arsenic harms the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as heart and blood vessels, and causes serious skin problems. It also may cause birth defects and reproductive problems.
WHO Standards for Arsenic:
The World Health Organizations (WHOs) current provisional guideline for arsenic in drinking water is 10 ppb. In India, states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhnad, West Bengal, Assam, Manipur, mainly in Ganga-Meghna-Brahmaputra (GMB) plain covering an area of about 569749 sq km with a population of over 500 million have reported serious illnesses due to presence of arsenic.

.
TECHNOLOGIES AVAILABLE FOR ARSENIC FLUORIDE  REMOVAL:
Activated Alumina and Reverse Osmosis (RO) are the only two methods for removing fluoride and arsenic.

About Activated Alumina

Activated alumina is a filter media made by treating aluminum ore so that it becomes porous and highly adsorptive. Activated alumina will remove a variety of contaminants including excessive fluoride, arsenic and selenium. The medium requires periodic cleaning with an appropriate regenerate such as alum or acid in order to remain effective. During the process about 5–10% of the alumina is lost and the capacity of the regenerated medium is reduced by 30–40%. The activated alumina needs replacement after 3–4 regenerations

FLOW CHART :
Pond/well---Pump---Iron Filter----Activated Alumina Filters---Activated Carbon Filter----UV Tube disinfection----Collection Tank----Supply by 20 Ltr JAR

DESCRIPTION OF PARTS OF THE SYSTEM :

The Iron filter with iron removal media is very high efficiency in Iron, turbidity and bacterial removal.

The Activated Alumina Filter removes both Arsenic and Fluoride. This is a WHO approved conventional method applied all over the world..

The Activated Carbon filter removes residual colour ,odour and Iron. Also it removes the bad effects of activated alumina.

UV Tube disinfects the water before supply.

Rural Low Cost Fluoride Removal System for Drinking Water

Guideline Values of Fluoride Standards in Drinking Water: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends 1.0 mg/L of fluoride concentration in drinking water (WHO, 1984) and the Bureau of Indian Standards IS 10500:2012 recommends requirement (acceptable) limit of 1 mg/L and permissible limit of 1.5 mg/L in drinking water sources.

There are five processes available for the treatment fluoride contaminated water. They are
  • Rain water harvesting (Most Preferred in villages)
  • Using surface water like ponds and wells with low Fluoride content
  • Activated Alumina Filter  (The Best Absorbant)
  • Nalgonda technique. and
  • Reverse osmosis process (RO)

Domestic filterThree variations of domestic filter, all using AA, have been developed by BEG, and sponsored by UNICEF since   1999. The first was made with a steel  casing and used around three kg ofAA (costing Rs.100/kg or &1.20), but the second reduced this to one kg because it had a special porous candle (tripura), which  removes the iron prior to arsenic filtration. the flow rate has to be slow enough to ensure that there is sufficient time for the arsenic to be absorbed. The candle is made locally by baking clay, sand and rice husk in a   mould then leaving it to cure over a period of about twenty days. The second filter was cheaper because it has a ferro cement casing, but this makes it heavier - 35 kg. It is also necessary to backwash or blow air
back through the candle to displace the iron oxide sediment.  This can be a health risk.
The third filter, developed in September 2003 by S. Smithers and J. Arnold for BEG, has fine-tuned the second design to make it cheaper, more user friendly, durable and hygienically sound, while reducing the overall weight by about five kg

self-exploration and Quran, Islam(Hanafi Fiqh)

In our culture, the idea of self-exploration does not exist and people have taken beliefs and ideas to be for granted.Do you accept that without reading or understanding the Holy Quran ?

When a query comes before me, I refer to the Qur’an Shareef. If I find the answer recorded in the Qur’an then I do not turn to anything else.

If after searching through the Qur’an Shareef I do not find a solution to my problem I refer to the Hadith. If I find the answer in the Hadith, then I do not refer to anything else.

Furthermore, if I do not find any solution in the Hadith then I adopt the view (ijtihaad) of Imaam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Alayh).

It appears in the Hadiththat when Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) dispatched Hadhrat Mu’aaz (Radiyallahu Anhu) to Yemen, he asked him, “What procedure will you adopt when passing decisions in the affairs of the Muslims?” Mu’aaz (Radiyallahu Anhu) replied: “I will decide in accordance to the Qur’an.” Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) then asked him: “If a law is not found in the Qur’an then what will you do?” He replied, “I will refer to the Ahaadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam).” Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) then questioned him: “If the ruling is not found in the Ahaadith, then what will you do?” He replied: “I will employ my ability of reasoning (ijtihaad) in reaching a conclusion.” Upon hearing this, Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “All praise be to Allah who inspired the messenger of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)Mu’aaz (Radiyallahu Anhu) with the correct guidance.” (Tirmizi – Kitaabul Ahkaam – 1/247)

Why we are created? By ABU AMEENAH BILAL PHILIPS

Why we are created?By ABU AMEENAH BILAL PHILIPS
"Why was I created? Why am I here? What am I doing in this world? Why did God create me?"
In our culture, the idea of self-exploration does not exist and people have taken beliefs and ideas to be for granted.Do you accept that without reading or understanding the Holy Quran ?

The question should be asked,, if you are really serious

1. What is Deity?
2. What is worship?
3. What is religion?
4. Why we are created?
Now if we are to look initially into revelation, to determine why was man created, there is a deeper question that we should be asking before that: "Why did God create?" This before we even get to man because man is not the greatest act of creation. Allah says:
"The creation of the Heavens and the Earth is indeed greater then the creation of mankind; yet, most of mankind know not."
[Al-Qur'an 40:57]
Man is not the greatest act of creation, this universe is far more complex and far more magnificent than man. So the issue of creation should then go to, "Why did God create?", as opposed to simply, "Why create man?"
Fundamentally, we can say that the creation is the natural consequence of the attribute of creator. Allah is the creator. That is one of his attributes. That is what he has informed us. That being his attribute, the creator, the natural consequence or the product of this attribute is his creation.

A painter, if we are to draw a similitude on a lower level, who tells you that he is a painter, if you ask him where are his paintings and he replies I don't have any. What kind of painter is this? The concept of a painter who doesn't paint, there is some thing not quite gelling together here, of course Allah is beyond this. But if we are to understand on the simplest level, the two go together. The perfection of a painter lies in his paintings. His quality and his ability to paint, is manifest in his paintings. And Allah, beyond all that, as creator, this quality of creation is manifest in the creation itself. Allah didn't create out of a need. No, the fact that he is the creator, is manifest in the creation.
